About the course

Main emphasis of the course: Implementation of a sustainable software project with a real customer

Theme for the SE4GD students is Sustainable software.

SE4GD project has several industry partners that will provide topics for the students. Students will see the topics, discuss and team up before contacting the customers. Companies will be your customers defining the product you start implementing. Each team member will have a well defined role in the work.  During the project each team will report their progress weekly and develop a plan for the next week. The project is closed with a written report, a presentation of the project results, and a project post mortem analysis.

Projects in Spring 2022

In spring 2022 the students of SE4GD worked with Solita, Vincit and Innotect.

DCE – Solution for distributed circular economy

DCE is a project with Solita – a Northern European tech company. This project  developed a system that provides a distributed platform to manage waste materials. This waste material can be anything such as the leftovers, the used materials. This platform enables businesses to manage the extra, waste, and used materials in an efficient manner that leads to less pollution, less overhead, and a sustainable future.

DCE is an ecosystem not only for companies and individuals who want to sell/buy their goods, but also for service companies (such as logistics, maintenance, extractors, etc.) to accompany companies and individuals within their trades.

aCHECK – Color contrast evaluator

aCHECK is a web-based tool that can check color contrast of a website or any graphic by uploading the screenshot, and evaluate whether its contrast meets the WCAG2.1 measurement or not.

aCHECK was done for VINCIT – a technology company that builds digital services and solutions for their customer. VINCIT is known in Finland as one of the trailblazers in sustainable software development.

AccessIT – Automated Accessibility Audit Tool

AccessIT is an automated accessibility audit tool that is meant for software engineers and UI/UX designers for evaluating how well a website follows accessibility standards. This tool is a cloud based solution and published in GitHub under MIT license.

This work has been done together with VINCIT – a tech company that considers all users equally.

Supersense eco – solution for optimizing energy production

Supersense eco is an energy optimization tool that combines Nordpool energy prices with the weather forecasting and thus provising information when energy needs to be produced.

Supersense eco has been done in close collaboration with Innotect – a company that provides digital services for sustainable tomorrow.
