Tackling the toughest sustainability challenges

“The truly sustainable future requires that we understand the challenges from local to global level, from farms to industries, from companies to individuals, and are able to innovate, design and implement solutions that enable green and inclusive transition while making sure that no one is left behind SE4GD project vision

Objectives of our SE4GD programme

  • Emphasize sustainable development through the use of software solutions
  • Emphasize human aspects in sustainability
  • Develop the education aspects of sustainability with the social perspective
  • Educate ICT professionals with improved knowledge, skills and competences on sustainable development

Our SE4GD programme is divided into following types of courses/content:

  • Core courses with expertise in the given field/domain
  • Seminar courses with (local industry) to broaden your perspectives
  • Master’s projects to actually solve some of the given challenges
  • Culturally oriented courses / content to give you impressions of local sustainability challenges
  • Summer schools to link you with industry and other interested stakeholders
Each of our semesters have theme for the studies:
  • Software engineering fundamentals in Italy
  • Sustainable software in Finland (and Russia)
  • Software for sustainability in the Netherlands

Holistic perception to sustainable development

The SE4GD programme covers the various sustainability dimensions in its contents:

    •  Core courses focus on technical and environmental aspects e.g. considering the environmental effects of various ICT devices
    • Your thesis project as well as industry seminars emphasize the economic aspects
    • Social and individual aspects are considered in our culturally oriented courses

In all our actions we aim to carefully consider the impacts of these actions on these different sustainability dimensions

Emphasizing employability

SE4GD programme pays special attention to the employability of the programme students. Each semester has a specific theme for career skills.

  • The first semester focuses on IT lifestyle – what the students can expect of their work in the IT field.
  • The second semester adds entrepreneurial skills – how the students could use their skills founding their own companies.
  • The third semester emphasizes employability skills – how the students can point out their special skill set for the possible employers (or to the investors of their own company).

These aspects are emphasized and integrated into the course contents

Understanding others and working together

The SE4GD programme is based on a multicultural background by combining several different cultural areas.

Partners of the SE4GD programme have been selected to fulfill the aims of the programme in the best way. As host, educational and industrial partners are important for the implementation of the programme content, regional and local partners are important for the real-world sustainability challenges. As SE4GD already has a connection to local partners in all hosting countries as well and many target regions, the programme is confident that it can provide competent education for students interested in the sustainable future.
