With a semester in Italy and another semester in Finland behind me, I can say that I have zero regrets about my decision to join SE4GD. My months in Italy were some of the most incredible months of my life. For the first time in my life, I got to live outside my country of birth and to do that in the most beautiful country in Europe—Italy. I also got to meet people from all over the world, each of them incredibly kind and filled with stories about places unknown to my limited worldview. I greatly enjoyed the random conversations with my flatmates, the hikes, and the board game bar nights. All that, of course, besides the technical curriculum offered by Università degli Studio dell’Aquila. Over the Christmas break, we moved to Finland, which was dark, cold, and quiet at first but slowly broke out of that state to unfold into beautiful landscapes and temperatures warmer than Italy’s. During one course at LUT we worked with companies, where I learned most about the software engineering process and sustainability reporting. I also became a confident presenter at some of the many initiatives for entrepreneurial skills offered by LUT and partners. As I write this, the semester in Lappeenranta is almost at an end, but I look forward to the next one in the Netherlands.

Studying in the SE4GD Erasmus Mundus program has been a transformative experience. I have had the incredible opportunity to study at top universities across Europe, learning from leading experts in software engineering and sustainability. The program’s multidisciplinary approach has not only deepened my technical skills but also heightened my awareness of the critical role software can play in achieving environmental goals. The diverse international community and collaborative projects have enriched my understanding and broadened my perspective, preparing me to contribute meaningfully to the European Green Deal and global sustainability efforts.

SE4GD blends sustainability with the path of software engineering and that is something unique that attracted not only me but also the brilliant minds around me who care about the Earth. We have only one planet, and it is our responsibility to ensure that future generations can live on it. Sustainability is the only answer, and we must step up to lead change.
When I say that every moment has been a learning experience after I joined SE4GD, I mean it. So far, it has been great and there is no doubt that the rest is going to be as well.
If you are interested, I welcome you to be a part of the changemakers in the next cohort!

Two months down the line, all I can say is that, the experience has been amazing. I have never experienced so much diversity and cultural awareness as this. I have made new friends, visited new places and I still have a long list of places to visit! To cap it all, I’ve got some of the most beautiful souls as classmates, everyone working as a team, ensuring that no one is left behind.
To new applicants, I would say, Never think you don’t have an experience to qualify for this scholarship, read about sustainability and green ict, then think about how your past studies, internship or work experience can be aligned to this. Also pay special attention to the application requirements on the website. Give it your best shot, the Erasmus experience is worth your application time. Prepare your mind for a world of endless opportunities and possibilities.

Hi folks! I’m Abdul Qadir Ahmed Abbasi hailing from Kashmir, Pakistan; a Computer Science graduate with an adequate experience of Software Engineering; a happy traveler with a passion for nature, culture & history; and a father to one beautiful daughter named Harrum (meaning “noble woman”).
I’m in L’Aquila, Italy for my higher studies under the Erasmus Mundus program titled as “Software Engineers 4 Green Deal”. So far, it has been a great experience for my both personal and professional development. I am very happy to be exposed to advanced areas of Software Engineering ie, Software Architecture, Software Engineering for IoTs, Model Driven Engineering & Software Quality Engineering.
Why did I choose SE4GD? Firstly, the integration of “Sustainability” & “Software” has been very appealing for me as it has a vast range of domains to offer for research and work in the present & near future. Secondly, it has not only provided me with excellent learning opportunities within the class but also outside the classroom because of mobility across multiple European countries (ie, Italy, Finland, Netherlands).
Although, it is just a start of this amazing journey, but I believe that the best has yet to come. For me, it is going to be a lifetime experience which will not only make me a better professional but also a better human in the end. I am very excited and happy to be a part of SE4GD family.
